You will find information below about two Group Term Life Insurance products that are restricted to Delphi Salaried Retirees. Many retirees have maintained insurance with both plans.  These two plans are both group plans and do not have policy numbers assigned to the anyone enrolled.  It is VERY important for anyone enrolled in these plans, to make a copy of the "Single Page" from each group plan, record the face value of coverage on the page along with the date and the address the payment is sent each month.  The page should be kept with your will and other insurance and legal papers.  

 Life Insurance

The DSRA Benefit trust offers term life insurance for salaried retirees of Delphi and your spouse/domestic partner. The plans premiums are 100% retiree-paid. Benistar is the voluntary life plan administrator servicing the life insurance policies offered through Guardian Life Insurance of America. Benistar is responsible for the application process, policy changes, billing, premium collection and the initiation of a claim and can be contacted at 1-888-588-6682 .

New applicants may apply at any time during the year.  All new applicants must submit both the Guardian Enrollment Form and the Evidence of Insurability Form.

Once enrolled, your policy will continue every year without any action required on your part. If the premium changes and you have authorized Benistar to draft the premium directly from your checking account, the amount will be adjusted by Benistar. No action is required on your part.  Rates do change every 5 years on insured’s birthdays ending in a zero or 5. Retiree coverage must be in effect to maintain spouse/domestic partner coverage. If the retiree pre-deceases the spouse, the spouse coverage ends concurrently with the retiree’s coverage.

To avoid a 15% premium increase demanded by Reliance Standard, on January 1, 2019, we transferred the group life contract from Reliance Standard to Guardian Life. There will not be a general price increase for 2020. There is a $3.50 monthly administrative fee per household to cover Benistar and DSRA-BT expenses.

This is a Group Life Plan, and as such, does not issue an individualized Certificate of Insurance. We strongly recommend that you print the one-page Guardian Summary of Insurance Plan Provisions document (link below) and maintain in your life insurance file. Please record the face value of your policy and the Benistar name and phone number on the document. This will assist greatly with your estate handling.

PLEASE NOTE: These plans are totally separate in all aspects from the term life plans offered through MetLife that you may have maintained after leaving Delphi.

MetLife: Effective January 1st, 2013 the DSRA Benefit Trust replaced Delphi Corp. and assumed the role of the Group Plan Policyholder and Plan Sponsor for the Met Life Optional and Dependant Term Life plans along with the Personal Accident Insurance Plans that have been offered through Delphi during our Delphi employment. These coverages are not open to new enrollments. All communication/payments/claims and changes are handled by MetLife through their customer service center.

Effective January 1st, 2013 the DSRA Benefit Trust replaced Delphi Corp as the Plan Policyholder and Plan Sponsor for the Delphi /MetLife Optional and Dependent Group Term Life plans along with the Personal Accident Insurance Plans. These plans are the exact same coverage’s you had purchased while working at Delphi and continued into retirement. Without a plan sponsor, MetLife would have been forced to cancel all existing retiree plans.

MetLife has been handling all billing and customer service issues for these originally Delphi sponsored plans and will continue without interruption for the future. Please do not contact Benistar, or our previous plan administrator…Mercer, regarding MetLife plans. Plan premiums are 100% retiree paid. The DSRA BT does not collect any fees for these plans. New applications are not being accepted for any of these MetLife plans.

MetLife also has a website but you will need to re-register on the MyBenefits website so that you can continue to have access to your account.  Simply go to the MyBenefits home page at www.metlife.com/mybenefits, type in “DSRA Benefit Trust” in the “Account Sign In” area, then register as a participant under that plan.  It’s quick and easy.
